Let’s Take a Look: Resetting a Sharp Aquos TV

“Have you tried turning it off and on again?”

This iconic line from The IT Crowd, a short lived cult hit on British TV, is funny, we’ll admit that, but it’s also oddly relevant. The list of tech based issues that can be solved, or at the least alleviated (in the same way medicine doesn’t cure your cold, it just makes it manageable), is long indeed. If you’re ever experiencing technical difficulties and are stuck on trying to find the solution, you can always try turning off whatever ails you and then back on again.

But what happens when this simple step does nothing to fix the problem?

If you don’t have advanced knowledge of technology and how to troubleshoot it, then you’re going to get stuck eventually. It’s a part of life. Even the best minds hit roadblocks from time to time. However, there are simple steps you can follow to diagnose and hopefully solve some of your smaller issues.

In the “Let’s Take a Look” series of blogs, that’s what we intend to help you accomplish.

We’re not going to go in depth, the point of this is to make sure even the most novice user will be able to follow these steps. Plus, we don’t want to give away ALL our secrets. That’s just bad business.
Here at AVDI, we deal a lot with televisions, most notably Sharps. In this first installment we are going to give you the steps on how to reset your Sharp TV. Basically, these are more complicated version of turning it off and then on again, but retain the overall premise.

#1: Hard Reset

-This is a simple process. All you have to do is unplug your TV from its power source, wait about 30 seconds or so and plug the TV back in.

#2: System Reset

-This way is slightly more involved but still simple. With your set on, press the Menu button, navigate to the Initial Setup section and then scroll down to Reset. Hit enter until the process begins. This will restore all the initial settings on your set.

#3: Factory Reset (Good for most LC models of Sharp TVs)

-This mode is a bit more complicated and you may need some assistance depending on the location of your set. Also, try to stick to these steps as changing any other settings while in diagnostic mode may affect some internal components in your TV.

  • First, unplug the power cable from the back of the TV
  • Next, on the TV, press and hold Volume Down and Input (if the next steps don’t work after a few attempts, try holding the Volume Down and Channel down buttons)
  • Plug the TV back in while continuing to hold the buttons down.
  • A “K” followed by some numbers should come up on top of a snowy screen
  • With the remote, navigate right and turn “Fact Init” (or similar) on, scroll down to reset, and hit enter. The screen should flash green and the set will power down.

Often times these steps will help rectify problems such as unresponsive buttons, audio issues, and screen malfunctions. If doing a complete reset on your television doesn’t fix the issue, there may be some internal problems and at this point you’ll have to get in touch with Sharp if your TV is still under warranty, or find a local repair shop to help diagnose the problem.

In the next installment we’ll look at some common DirecTV error codes and what to do when they show up on your TV.

Of course, we here at Abbot’s AVDI would love to help you plan and install your home theater or take care of any of your audio or visual needs. It’s worth noting that we also can install home surveillance and security systems. Under sales, click on “Request Quote” and fill out the form. Someone will contact you to help get the process started and answer any questions you may have. Or you can call 1-888-990-2834 if you want to get started right away.

We’ve upgraded/updated!

Hello everyone, Cam here. I’m AVDI’s web guy! These guys needed a new look and feel to their website and that’s exactly what I gave them! As you can see, everything has been simplified! No longer are we using the 1990’s based design that we once were. No longer will you feel lost! Navigating this site should be as easy as pushing the VOLUME UP button on your television remote!

If you notice any thing that looks out of place, let me know! If something is not working the way it was probably intended, give us a shout! I’m sure someone will hunt me down in the middle of the night just to get me to fix it. I’m just that kind of devoted guy.

Comments are disabled here. Feedback is always appreciated. Please tell the AVDI guys how your experience was here!

Thanks and have a great day!
